Opportunities with the Children and the Law Center

Internships Available

There are approximately 5-7 internship positions available during the summer months, and 3-5 throughout the school year. During the school year, interns are asked to make a minimum commitment of 15 hours per week for at least 3 months. During the summer, interns are expected to work either full or part-time for a period of at least 2 months.

Paid/Unpaid

These internships are generally unpaid, although there are occasional exceptions when grant funds are available. More frequently, interns have been students on work study, students using a public interest stipend through their schools, or student volunteers.

Educational Requirements

While law students are preferred, internship opportunities at the Center on Children and the Law are also open to both other graduate students (e.g., social work, psychology) and undergraduates. All applicants must demonstrate an interest in child welfare issues and the law. Historically, almost all of the Center's undergraduate interns have continued on to law school and most interns pursue a career in the area of child welfare and the law.
