2008–2009 Officer & Council Nominations Announced
Andrew J. Demetriou, Section Chair and Chair of the Nominating Committee, is pleased to announce the following slate for officers of the Section and the Section Governing Council. The slate of elective positions not including Chair and Chair-Elect will be voted on at the Section Business Meeting at the ABA Annual Meeting on Saturday, August 9 th in New York, NY, in accordance with the Bylaws of the Section.
Chair: Vickie Yates Brown , Frost Brown Todd, LLC, Louisville, KY, the current Chair-Elect, will become Chair automatically upon the conclusion of the ABA Annual Meeting in New York.
Vickie was a member of the Council from 2000 to 2002 and has served as Secretary and Vice Chair. Her service to the Section includes being a member of the ABA Standing Committee on Medical Professional Liability from 2000-2007, Chair of the Legislative Affairs Committee from 1998-2004, and two years as a member of the Interest Group Task Force.
Chair-Elect: David W. Hilgers, partner, Brown McCarroll LLP, Austin, TX, the current Vice Chair, will become Chair-Elect automatically upon the conclusion of the ABA Annual Meeting in New York.
In addition to his role as Section Vice Chair, David served this year as Vice Chair of the Finance Committee, Vice Chair of the Sponsorship Committee, and in his third year as SOC liaison to the ABA Center for CLE. David previously held the positions of Budget Officer and Finance Committee Chair from 2005-2007, Vice Chair of the Coordinating Committee on Diversity from 2002-2006, Council Member from 2002-2005, and Managed Care & Insurance Interest Group Chair from 2000-2002 and Vice Chair in 1999-2000. He spent several years as Chair of the Programs Committee and also as Vice Chair and Chair on various conference planning committees, like the Physician-Legal Issues Conference, the Washington Healthcare Summit, and the Conference on Emerging Issues in Healthcare Law.
Vice Chair: Linda A. Baumann, partner, Arent Fox LLP, Washington, DC
Linda has served on Council since 2003, first as a member and then as Section Secretary starting in 2006. She has also been a liaison to the Commission on Women as the Breast Cancer Task Force has grown into its role as a function of the Section, Co-Chair of the Washington Healthcare Summit from 2003-2006, editor of the Section’s first book project with BNA, Health Care Fraud and Abuse: Practical Perspectives, Vice Chair of the CLE Programs Committee, and a Health Lawyer editorial board member from 1999-2002.
Secretary: David H. Johnson, Bannerman & Williams PA, Albuquerque, NM
David has been a Council Member since 2005 and is also currently the Chair of the Healthcare Liability Taskforce. He has served as a liaison to the ABA Standing Committee on Medical Professional Liability for two years, Co-Chair of the Conference on Emerging Issues in Healthcare Law from 2004-2006, and as Chair of the Healthcare Litigation & Risk Management Interest Group from 2003-2005 after serving as Vice Chair from 2001-2003.
Budget Officer: David L. Douglass, Partner, Shook, Hardy & Bacon, LLP, Washington, DC
David has served as a Council Member from 2005-2007 and this year as Budget Officer, Chair of the Finance Committee, and member of the Sponsorship Committee. His service to the Section also includes Vice Chair of the Conference on Emerging Issues in Healthcare Law from 2005-2007, member of the ABA Working Group on Federal Sentencing Guidelines from 2004-2008, and Vice Chair of the Healthcare Fraud & Compliance Interest Group from 2001-2005.
Delegate to the ABA House of Delegates: J.A. (Tony) Patterson, Partner, Fulbright & Jaworski LLP, Dallas, TX
Tony is currently the Vice Chair of the ABA Relations Committee. He has served as Section Chair from 2004-2005, having been Chair-Elect in 2003-2004, Vice Chair in 2002-2003, Secretary in 2001-2002, and a Council Member from 1998-2001 and 1996-1997. He has also served the Section on the Nominating Committee from 2003-2005 and as the Membership & Marketing Chair from 1999-2002.

Bob has served as Chair of the Membership Committee since 2004, having been the Vice Chair from 2001-2004. He has also been liaison to the Center on Children & the Law from 2005-2008, Vice Chair of the Conference on Emerging Issues in Healthcare Law from 2003-2005, Chair of the Healthcare Facility Operations Interest Group from 2003-2005, and liaison to the Young Lawyers Division from 1998-2000.
