About the Section
The Section of Science & Technology Law was formed in 1974 to provide a forum for addressing issues at the intersection of law, science, and technology. Since then, the Section has grown to become a focal point for information and policy on many important issues, such as computer and information security law, privacy, cybercrime, scientific evidence, genetic research and engineering, biotechnology and nanotechnology. Gilbert F. Whittemore is the current Chair of the Section of Science & Technology Law.

Section News
- The Section's quarterly electronic newsletter is revamped. Click here to read the new version, which is titled SciTech e-Merging News. It includes both substantive practice specific information and Section news.
- Section members are encouraged to submit SciTech e-Merging News substantive articles and committee materials for consideration in future issues. Send to gillespj@staff. abanet.org. Click here to view submission deadlines.
- Section leaders share "job finding" and "practice growing" insights geared toward young lawyers and law students in a new publication called The SciTech Edge.
- Ruben Rodrigues of the University of Chicago Law School won the Law Student Writing Contest for his submission: You've Been Poked: Privacy in the Era of Facebook. Justin Lee of Loyola Law School, Los Angeles is recognized for his "honorable mention" submission: The Reasonable Expectation of Invasion.
Section Committees
The Section has 26 substantive committees that are organized into three divisions:
- E-Commerce and IT Law
- Life Sciences and Physical Sciences
- Interdisciplinary Division
Section members are invited to join Section committees at no additional cost. Many committees offer informational newsletters and discussion list serves.
