Technology Services for Bar Associations

The American Bar Association's Legal Technology Resource Center offers bar associations and foundations several services to help better serve your members through technology. With a staff of tech savvy lawyers and information specialists, the LTRC fully understands your goals and objectives. We communicate about technology and technology issues clearly and use concepts that you and your constituency understand. Some services are fee-based.

The Legal Technology Resource Center will be available to help with any follow-up or questions after the initial services are completed. We also provide surveys, articles, presentations, and e-mail discussion lists focused on trends and practical solutions for law firms and bar associations via our website.

Technology Consultation and Research

The professional staff at LTRC provides resources, research, and consultation on technology purchase decisions. Based on in-depth knowledge of the legal technology industry and survey information gathered on trends and usage, LTRC staff can help guide you through the purchase and implementation process. LTRC can also assist with the creation of strategic technology plans, RFPs, and other aspects of the technology purchasing process. Writing for Bar Association Publications

Staffed by professional lawyers and librarians with a wide range of expertise and experience, the LTRC regularly publishes articles in bar association and trade journals. Our expertise ranges from knowledge management to portal technologies to technology best practices. The LTRC will work with you to create content specifically for your audience. Website Evaluation

Evaluate bar association website for accessibility, currency, navigability, and content. Make specific recommendations for improvement via a detailed report.

Technology Audit

Review technology implemented in bar association offices, including desktop and network infrastructure, software, peripherals, Internet connections, security, and other resources. Identify weaknesses or improvements in technology or business practices, including security, backup and redundance, and automation. Focus both on how the association uses its technology internally and to serve members.

Ideally, an audit will be conducted onsite, but potentially could be done based on inventory provided by bar association staff in conjunction with a questionnaire.

Continuing Legal Education

Participate in bar association CLE programs, as a sole speaker or panelist, on technology topics customized to the bar association's needs and to its member audience. Please see our representative presentations for examples of the broad range of topics covered by the Legal Technology Resource Center.

$250 < 1000 members
$350 < 2500 members
$500 > 5000 members
Negotiable > 10,000 members

Travel expenses, if applicable*

$500, plus travel expenses


- Continuing Legal Education
No fee, travel expenses only


* The following travel expenses are reimbursable to the Legal Technology Resource Center by the hiring organization: economy airfare, hotel accommodations, meals, and local transportation.
